Telepediatrics: Telemedicine and Child Health
Most healthcare professionals would find it inconceivable to think of life without
the telephone as part of their day-to-day work. Our ubiquitous pagers and mobile
phones have also become intimate attachments in recent decades. We rarely give
them a second thought as we grab them each morning, although the urgency with
which they demand our attention earns the occasional unprintable words! We also
need to remember, however, that communication between health professionals
and those they care for remains difficult in many parts of the world. Health
services may be completely inaccessible for many, and others may face days of
trekking through difficult terrain to reach even the most rudimentary of
