Analyzing Organization Cultures

I did an independent study as part of my MBA degree. This involved
visiting two worksites and interviewing a number of people. During this
period, I had not been exposed to how anthropologists and sociologists
conduct field studies. I later learned a great deal about these subjects.
However, one should never underestimate the importance of a person
being enthusiastic and curious. I proved to be good at asking questions,
listening, and analyzing what I found. I enjoyed learning about different
workplaces. When I was able to discover new things, I felt that I was
making a real contribution. Once I learned more about how to write
academic papers, I was able to get my initial case studies published in an
anthropology journal entitled City & Society (Fortado, 1991).
