Exploring the value of group supervision in midwifery. Part 2: Evaluation of data from Wales
Statutory supervision has been a feature of midwifery practice in the UK
since 1902. As part of statutory supervision, all midwives meet with their
named supervisor of midwives to review their practice over the previous
year and to confirm their competence to practise in the coming year. This
is referred to as the Annual Supervisory Review (ASR). In 2014, with the
aim of protecting the public, a new Future Proofing Model of supervision
was developed by Welsh Local Supervisory Authority Midwifery Officers
and launched in Wales (but not in other parts of the UK) in August of that
year (Ness and Richards, 2014). The new model is being evaluated on
an ongoing basis. This paper reports on findings from the evaluations
undertaken between summer 2014 and summer 2015. The data were
