Role of the Pediatrician in Breastfeeding Management

14 articles from experts across North America address topics that may help pediatri-
cians and other child health professionals in their critical role. Articles address the
evidence regarding the risk of not breastfeeding and benefits of breastfeeding,
evidence-based approaches to clinical management of breastfeeding, the impact of
public health policy, and the promotion and support of breastfeeding from a health
system and community-wide view. A major advance has been the development of
evidence-based protocols by the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine, addressing
many specific circumstances, which we are pleased to introduce in this issue. Other
